Dakar 2012 Argentina

Argentina will host 5 stages of the 2012 edition of the Dakar Rally

The 2012 edition of Dakar is right around the corner and were pleased as punch that it will start in Mar Del Plata this year.  If you’ve never been to Mar Del Plata or any of the beaches on the Argentine Atlantic coast, you should pack your bags and come on down.  Mar Del Plata, and its neighbor resorts of San Bernardo, Santa Teresita, Necochea, Villa Gesell and Pinamar are in full swing. The bars and nightclubs are open all night and the beaches are waiting for you during the day.  It’s going to be a hell of a party that you wouldn’t want to miss .

But Mar Del Plata isn’t the only place in the republic that the rally will pass through. Far from the sunblock and beach balls of Mar Del Plata the rally the towns of Santa Rosa, San Rafael, San Juan, Chilecito and Fiambala are also making preparations.  The good news is that these towns are great places to visit, so if you can’t make it to Mar Del Plata, you can still enjoy the race.

And if you plan on making the trip, why not check out more of the country while you are at it?  January is the middle of summer down here at while people in the northern hemisphere will be shoveling snow, you can be eating grilled steak and drinking red wine for a fraction of what it would cost you at home.

One note of caution though.  January is high travel season in the entire country.  Hotels and flights fill up quickly, so make your reservations ahead of time.   All of us at the Argentina Travel Group live and travel extensively in Argentina, so we can help you find the best deals during this period.  Check back frequently on this website as we will be posting the deals we find on a regular basis.

I have been looking for a more detailed map of the entire route but have not been able to find anything. Do you have better details of the route than is given on the Dakar website?
