iruya If you are looking to get off the beaten track, Iruya might just be the place for you. Located in Salta but only accessible from the province of Jujuy, Iruya sits on the Altiplano at almost 10,000 feet. In recent times it has become a tourist attraction but the town keeps its Andean feel.

How to get to Iruya

By Bus

Buses to Iruya leave Humahuaca 4 times daily (3 to 3 1/2 hours)

By auto

The fifty kilometer largely unpaved road to Iruya crosses a 4000 meter pass and care must be taken when driving along the road. During rainstorms the road can become impassible.

Things to do in Iruya

A trek to San Isidro, 8 kilometers from Iruya. Possible to do in 5 hours round trip, but a whole day is recommended.
